Open-Air Black Box Ticker
I'm sure this design ran cooler than other black boxes. Typically, they could get 40 degrees above room temperature, which was nasty in the summer. But all those holes also meant more noise, so a large sound-deadening cover was made to keep it quiet and prevent hands from being scalded.
